Open and sustainable AI: challenges, opportunities and the road ahead in the life sciences

Led by the BioComputing UP lab with broad participation from the ELIXIR Machine Learning Focus Group and involving experts from over 10 ELIXIR Nodes, a new perspective published in Nature Methods addresses the reproducibility, reusability and environmental crises in biological AI.

The paper introduces 9 actionable recommendations for Open and Sustainable AI (OSAI) and provides researchers with a mapped ecosystem of over 300 tools to ensure AI outputs are reusable, reproducible, and environmentally sustainable.

A step forward in building responsible AI in the life sciences.
