EOSC-ARENA

AI Research Enhancement through Networked Agents

Abstract

EOSC-ARENA is a Horizon Europe project that aims to establish a sovereign, generative, and agentic AI ecosystem integrated with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The project seeks to transform how AI supports scientific research by providing an intelligent assistant that spans the full research lifecycle, from knowledge discovery and hypothesis generation to analysis, reporting, and provenance tracking. Building on a multi-agent architecture and a dedicated marketplace for generative AI services, EOSC-ARENA will enable federated training and inference, secure and interoperable AI workflows, and integration with EOSC through existing European e-infrastructures. The initiative is strongly grounded in principles of data and model sovereignty, human-centred AI, transparency, and research integrity, while addressing the growing need for advanced AI/ML services in science. The EOSC-ARENA consortium is coordinated by Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center IBCh (PSNC) and includes a wide European network of partners, combining expertise in AI, data science, and research infrastructures. Twelve interdisciplinary use cases will drive the co-design, implementation, and validation of the system across diverse scientific domains. Beyond its technical framework, the project is structured around three pillars: robust agentic AI systems, community building and training for responsible AI use aligned with European values, and a comprehensive set of infrastructure services. Together, these elements aim to enable a trustworthy, scalable, and sovereign AI environment for open and collaborative science within EOSC.
