A new ELIXIR Credit, Recognition and Usage (CRU) Focus Group has been launched to coordinate work on how contributions to research and research infrastructures are recognised across ELIXIR.
We are particularly pleased that Federica Quaglia, postdoctoral researcher in our lab and member of ELIXIR Italy, is co-leading this new Focus Group, together with Thanasis Vergoulis (ELIXIR Greece; Compute Platform) and Hervé Ménager (ELIXIR France; Tools Platform), with David Lloyd as ELIXIR Hub liaison.
Modern life science research relies on a wide range of contributions beyond traditional publications, including software, workflows, datasets, training materials, curation, coordination and infrastructure maintenance. These outputs and activities are essential for enabling high-quality, reusable research, but they are not always fully recognised by current research evaluation systems.
The CRU Focus Group brings together experts from ELIXIR Nodes, Platforms and Communities to connect ongoing activities related to credit, recognition, attribution and usage metrics. The group will help align efforts across ELIXIR, reduce duplication and support consistent approaches for recognising the people and resources that underpin life science data infrastructure.
The group will focus on mapping contribution and usage types across ELIXIR, developing best practice recommendations, identifying common use cases and supporting the adoption of interoperable approaches for credit and recognition. This includes research outputs such as software, datasets, workflows and training materials, as well as infrastructure activities including curation, coordination, governance support and training.
The Focus Group will also strengthen links with ELIXIR initiatives and services related to credit and recognition, including APICURON and BIP! Scholar, while connecting with broader community efforts such as OpenAIRE, ORCID and EOSC-related activities.
